Purple Zebras

Standard

I’ve been dying to try my Rebecca Taylor zebra blouse with this flirty purple mini; all the stripes remind me of Fruit Stripe bubblegum; although I’d like to think my ensemble isn’t as tasteless.

Rebecca Taylor silk bustier top at the Village thrift for $7.90!

It’s difficult to tuck in without fabric spilling out, but it’s length isn’t right for my short torso

For a daytime look at Kings dominion, I wore my BR crossbody bag that I could take on all the rides, Nine West sandals (14.99) for all the walking around the park  and a BR leather snake-embossed belt (11.97) to give a bit more structure.

champagne wishes and cargo-pant dreams

Standard

Sometimes you need to balance the hard with the soft, like these champagne satin colored stilettos and delicate lace paired over durable cargo skinny pants (7.50 from Target) I like the unconventional contrast it creates.

The shoes are by Fergie (Yes Black eyed Peas Fergie, who else? has her own line of shoes) all of them are super cute and reasonably priced:   http://www.fergieshoes.com/

I got this pair for $25 at Nordstrom, they reminded me of  a Louboutin pair I desperately wanted

My best friend Alex made the headband; actually I borrowed this one and haven’t returned it yet…ooops and earrings are glass flower studs from Urban Outfitters

Sunday Brunch

Standard

What started out as a morning stroll through Rock Creek Park turned into a half-days journey getting “metaphorically” lost in Dupont Circle, pit-stopping for both breakfast  and lunch  along the way….good thing I was wearing flats.

The black beading in these sandals (24.99 at Marshalls) pop against the mauve colored suede but compliment my chevron printed romper nicely (14.99 at Marshalls) I could never have enough rompers in my summer collection

The woven belt with the colors and design of this outfit reminds me of  a  handmade Navajo basket

I didn’t carry a purse for the lovely walk because the romper had pockets which create a great draping effect over hips, but I did wear this wooden bracelet I bought in Brazil, my butterfly headband is hard to see but you can just make it out in this soft-focus shot

It also had a cool enough vibe for the DC Jazz festival which I inadvertently walked into at the Phillips Gallery; which I had no idea was where they were housing this Renoir gem; “Luncheon of the Boating Party”  I bet they all started out on a brief Sunday morning stroll too…….

Indian Summer

Standard

Once I had my plans settled for Saturday night, I had exactly what I wanted to wear in mind for a nice casual dinner in the city on a slightly windy evening…. a maxi dress,  soft jersey knit, preferably empire waisted, non-strapless and non-floral. With the proper specifications, shopping is always a snap and I had this gorgeous garment in hand in under 30 minutes and 30 dollars at Marshalls.

Dress by Romeo and Juliet Couture for $24.99; originally listed as $155 at Neiman Marcus or SAKS!!!

Better yet, at the same store I found an identical match for footwear; these beaded, suede thong sandals are almost a facsimile in color and pattern to the dress’ tribal print. Also $24.99 by Report

Wait, there’s more…Marshall’s also had these adorable Betsey Johnson avi’s for only $14.99; conveniently the sunnies rack is located next to the register and I grabbed these on the way to checkout…..at least now I can return my dad’s pair.

Sophisticated pose, lol

accessories: “maize”-yellow leather envelope wristlet (from thrift), circle earrings with green beads (from thrift) and green beaded bracelet with faux-coins $1 in the dollar bins at Target!
