It’s all happening at the Zoo

Standard

Today I had to visit the Egyptian Consulate in DC to get a Visa for my passport; and the National Zoo just happened to be down the street so I spent the day visiting the lions and tigers and bears, Oh  My!

Skirt: Banana Republic $3.45 (Village Thrift) Polka dot blouse: Ann Taylor $4.90 (brand new with tags attached! from Village thrift)

tan cardigan: Banana Republic $6.90 Village thrift    Silk floral Scarf: Off Saks 5th $17     Woven belt: Banana Republic $12.99

Shoes in this picture: Cole Haan 12.90 at Village thrift….but later I decided it would be cool enough to wear tights and closed toe pumps (see below)

Here you can see the colors of the blouse and the skirt compliment each other

Accessories: scarf, lotus blossom earrings and Kate Spade bow ring

  Roooaaaaarrrr

It was getting colder so I untucked the scarf and wrapped it around, but I like the look of the scarf tucked under the belt, it creates length and adds to the volume on top while still accentuating the smallest part of the waist

Although I wish I had planned better, I wouldn’t have worn these heels because its all uphill walking

Sherbert

Standard

I was looking for a sweaters that were different from what I usually wear, so  the colors and textures on this one really stood out; they remind me of rainbow sherbert minus the orange. The label says Norton McNaughten  and I picked it out at the Village Thrift for $3.45 This sweater over skinny jeans in a maroon color($5.90 from Village thrift) and forest green pumps (39.99 by Guess) prevents this look from being frumpy

I love button-up turtlenecks worn buttoned-down like this, creating an angled collar.

Warm and cozy outfit ready for  Bible study

Fight Night

Standard

Mrs. Homsi may be the worst photographer ever, so its hard to see the comfy ensemble I put together for fight night at Icons

The joint was packed, even with the $10 cover and ridiculous drink prices, Does Fairfax really think its the new DC or something

Here we are all booted up and ready to go; I’m wearing my fringe boots with skinny jeans and on top, an Ann Taylor silk cashmere blend sleeveless cowl tunic in coral and for outerwear pieces these scrunched up rainbow fingerless gloves by nine west (2.90 from village thrift) and  Banana Republic cable knit duster (19.90 from Village Thrift)

For everyone who says I never smile; guess my BFF has that affect on me 🙂

It would be better if you could see the boots

Party Rock Anthem

Standard

No work today! Thank you Veterans. After a day of chores and actually finishing a book I started this summer, I was invited to a friend’s work party. I needed the right blend of sexy casual and still be able to stay warm—very tricky

Definitely denim, but with a little bit of sparkle and stilettos.

Burgandy silk cami with gold sequins by Guess: $3.90 at Village thrift; Ann Taylor dark wash skinny denim $9.88

For warmth, a scarf also flecked w/ gold sequins to mirror the blouse without going overboard and a black ruffle front cardi; although a blazer would have made an even better outerwear option for a work party, but I kept on the cazh side since I’d never met these people before and didn’t want to seem stuffy

Jessica Simpson Leopard print peep-toes $39 at Marshalls—worth every penny!!!! Unfortunately, we had to walk a ways to get to the house so I almost immediately regretted this decision, except for the compliments I got from the other ladies there.

Leopard print cuff $1 at Target-matches the shoes! and Gold bow cocktail ring by Kate Spade and black bead Initial E charm necklace

Tornadoes and T-rexes

Standard

Today was one of those days, I tore threw my closet like a tornado leaving piles of clothes in my wake and changed at least 4 times only to wind up in jeans, but since there’s no school tomorrow, then technically it’s casual Thursday.

Here’s the tornado:

I needed some silliness to brighten up my rough morning start, so I picked these T-rex stud earrings. I don’t know why but something about dinosaurs always gets me to crack a smile 🙂

Here are the T-rexes:

And here’s the end result: perfect for playing darts at the Alehouse for happy hour after work—-3 day weekend Wahoo!!!

Motocross denim by converse $7.50 at target
Watercolor bowtie blouse by Ann taylor Loft $9.88
Grey and navy striped cardi by banana republic $ 5.90 at village thrift

I love the way the colors in the floral meld with the bold boyish stripes of the cardi and pops of purple peek out!

My favorite part is the shoes; after chucking all my heels off their closet rack, I settled for flats: these delicate silk silver leaf slippers are from Max Studio (a steal at $9.90)

After work I stayed for the tutoring program we offer to students:

Feeling like fashion royalty

Today I couldn’t help feeling regal in this vintage angora Christian Dior beaded sweater!

Time To Tailgate

Standard

Another Skins game, but this time I was lucky enough to have been given a parking pass with the tickets from a generous friend.  So I was able to take my Jukebox, pop open the backseat and make some new friends.

Layers of Maroon and Gold—What an amazing color combo!

As the day got warmer, some of the layers came off, but here’s what I put together:

Yellow sweater dress (as seen in modsquad post) $7, I cut it short so it would tuck into my shorts

Redskins logo shorts: 3.50 at Village Thrift   Crochet beanie: 2.90 at thrift

Redskins logo gray crew neck tee- 10.99 at KOHLS    and Knee socks: 14.99 from Redskins store-souvenir from my last game
